The Gujarat Cricket Association (GCA) is poised to launch its own Twenty20 league in the 2025-26 season, joining a growing number of state associations embracing the format.
According to Anil Patel, secretary of the Gujarat Cricket Association, the decision has been made, although key details are still being worked out. Speaking to Cricbuzz, Patel confirmed that the GCA is yet to determine a suitable window for the tournament, as well as finalize the number of participating teams and other logistical aspects.
These domestic T20 leagues have emerged as vital scouting grounds for IPL franchises. Leagues in Delhi, Mumbai, Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh, West Bengal, Andhra, and Saurashtra provide platforms for local players to shine and potentially earn a spot in the lucrative Indian Premier League. Many of these leagues are held in June and July, following the conclusion of the IPL season in May.
